Biography

Shirreef Loza is an International Trade Specialist with the United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration (ITA), U.S. Foreign and Commercial Service office in Raleigh, NC. In this role, he actively works with foreign service officers in U.S. Embassies and Consulates to promote U.S. businesses, schools and organizations in international markets. Since 2003, Shirreef has held a variety of leadership roles on the Healthcare, Education, and Information Communication Technology teams, and served as Deputy Leader for the Africa/Near East/South Asia regional team. Shirreef is cofounder and President of Blacks Building Opportunities to Leverage Diversity (BBOLD), an ITA employee resource group (ERG).

In 2016, Shirreef received the U.S. Commerce Silver Medal Award for his work on Trade Winds, the largest ever U.S. government led trade mission to Africa. In 2012, he served as Senior Commercial Officer in Kuwait, and in 2011 acted as the local liaison for NC Governor Perdue’s trade mission to China coordinating North Carolina businesses with the U.S. Embassy and Consulate network in Beijing and Shanghai.

In 2021, Shirreef was honored with two Director General Awards, most notably the Peer Leadership Award, for his work to advance programs to support African American employees in U.S. Commerce. In 2022, Shirreef was appointed to the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and represented the International Trade Administration at National HBCU Week in Washington, D.C. In 2022, Shirreef was appointed to the President’s Advisory Committee at St. Augustine’s University. In 2019, Shirreef was appointed to the advisory committee at the School of Public and International Affairs

at N.C. State University. In 2024, Shirreef was appointed to the Borough of Manhattan Community College Office of Diplomatic Engagement and Training Advisory Board, and the Cyber Security Global Alliance Senior Leadership Team.

Aside from his daily role in the Raleigh office, Shirreef is an active member of the Wake County Foreign Direct Investment Committee and serves as a board member of the World Trade Association in the Research Triangle Park. In 2023, Shirreef served on detail as North Africa regional manager at the Advocacy Center in Washington, D.C. In 2024, Shirreef joined the Global Trade Promotion team in HQ coordinating the International Trade Administration's trade shows, events and missions.

Shirreef was born in Montreal, Canada to Egyptian parents, and at the age of eight, immigrated to North Carolina. Shirreef speaks French and Arabic, and earned his B.A. in Philosophy and Master of International Studies with a concentration on Middle East – U.S. Policy Formation from N.C. State University.
